SATURDAY'S COVER(ed) # 4

OH YEAH! A giaganourmous Vampire creature thingie!!! Plus who doesn't love violet on album jackets?
When I moved from Fort Wayne to Wichita in November of 1975 (still miss you bookman187) the song "Love Hurts" was ubiquitous on AM radio (the only kind my Ford Pinto could get) as well as FM. I liked it a lot, but not enough to buy the album HAIR OF THE DOG. I have since picked up the Cd and am glad I did. Nazareth is (was) a fine blues/funk/ROCK outfit from blustery Scotland.

This is just a terrific drawing. Though a "tad" cartoonish (IT'S FOR A ROCK BAND) it's almost got a bit of a Lovecraft vibe going (giant unspeakable et al)

The hit song in question was written by Boudleaux Bryant and first had success with the one-and-only Ray Orbison! My own favorite version is by Miss Emmylou Harris & Gram Parsons (on Grievous Angel).

But I'm giving you a fun version to listen to if you're so inclined....with even a bit of DISCO in the middle.

Rihanna’s Fragrance – Reb’l Fleur

Weren’t we just talking about Rihanna and her fashion style recently.

Here is another news. The songstress will soon be launching her first perfume that she has named Reb’l Fleur! The name was actually the nickname that her grandmother gave which she even got tattooed on her neck last summer.

“I have always layered scents to create something just my own, but nothing was ever perfect. So the time was right to create Reb’l Fleur—something people would recognize me by—something that would linger deliciously and make everyone say ‘Rihanna was here’.”

An Artist You Should Know About

The incredibly talented man's name is Bob Lizarraga! I did not even know he existed (which is not that strange seeing as how I live under a rock) until yesterday on the CHFB (Classic Horror Film Board), another talented artist (also one of my favorites) by the name of Belle De Dilbrey mentioned that Mr. Lizarraga was worth nominating and voting for, in this years RONDO AWARDS. Belle is right! Click on the title of this post above (or click on http://www.boblizarraga.com/ ) to go to his cool web site (with really neat sound effects as well) and scope out his stuff. Heck, buy his stuff!!!

I love this painting of his where the Wolfman is "taking off" his Lon mask!

Oh, be sure to also check out Belle's blog: Doo Wacka Doodles (http://doowackadoodles.blogspot.com/ )

People’s Choice Awards 2011

The night before we saw one of the most awaited award nights and a great beginning to the new year. And that too with 175 million votes. We are talking about People’s Choice Awards 2011 that saw many expected and many unexpected wins.

Selena Gomez at People Choice Awards 2011

Selena Gomez is my new favorite since the night, although I know only one song of hers. She beat Justin Bieber in the category of ‘Favorite Breakout Artist’ and that was a surprise.

Katy Perry People Choice Awards

Another unexpected win of the night was that of Kriten Stewart who beat the biggies such as Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston in the category of ‘Favorite Movie Actress’.

The Twilight Saga – Eclipse got the Favorite Movie

and Johnny Depp – Favorite Movie Actor

Dress it like Rihanna !

The famous Pop singer Rihanna is loved for her style of dressing as much as she is love for her music. Most of the jewelry she wears is usually bold and statement jewelry, but when it comes to earrings she like to stick to the classy hoop earring or diamond studs.

Shania Twain starts the year with her Wedding!

Famous Pop singers and also one of my childhood favorites, Shania Twain walked the altar for the second time this New Year, and this time with her sweetheart, Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebau in Puerto Rico.

Shania Twain wedding

Twain might have sung the famous song ‘That don’t impress me much’,but her Engagement ring with 3-carat Emerald cut diamond by by Lorraine Schwartz is most certainly impressive.

Shania Twain engagement ring

Emerald cut is personally one of my favorites, It is basically a rectangular step cut with soft or rounded corners. The cut portrays a unique combination of style and sophistication and only looks good in gemstones of a certain size or more.

R.I.P. Verne Langdon

The above banner was designed by CHFB creator/owner/moderator Kerry Gammill. Mr. Gammill is a genuinely good guy and creates many of these fine visual testaments to our "fallen" and "taken" titans of the silver screen, monster-kid fandom, and the other various genre solar systems.

Please "click" on the title of this post to be taken to an RIP thread devoted to the talented composer, mask-maker, and horror raconteur Verne Langdon.
I've also posted a nice snippet of Langdon's famous CARNIVAL OF SOULS below.

There is also a fine testimonial and "respects" thread to Ms. Anne Francis on CHFB as well.

Fairwell Altaira

R.I.P. ANNE FRANCIS

Famed SF Icon and talented actress ANNE FRANCIS died yesterday at the age of 80.
I can't tell you how "Wowed" I was, when as a young boy I first laid eyes upon the beautiful Ms Francis when I first viewed the epic 1956 film FORBIDDEN PLANET! Yeah, Robby the Robot is cool... but ANNE as Altaira is.... well, breathtaking.

She also got my young hormones "a-going" when she played HONEY WEST (1965-6) on the small tube.

Well, she is now upon an even better and safer "planet" with good old Doc Morbius (her Dad, played by Walter Pidgeon), Commander Adams (Leslie Nielsen) and beau Jerry Farman (actor Jack Kelly).
As IMDb says: "one tall, cool drink of water..." RIP

SUGAR BEAR? Yeah!

How come there's a picture of Sugar Bear on/in a blog that's ostensibly devoted to monsters and stuff?
Well, Sugar Bear did go up against a nemesis (for a brief while) on his cereal commercials by the name of "Blob!" Close enough (c.f. Steve McQueen's first starring role)
I loved Sugar Bear's non-chalant Bing Crosby cool. I loved his cartoons on the short-lived Saturday Morning cartoon show LINUS THE LION-HEARTED. I never ate his cereal. I was more of a Trix guy.
Click on the picture so you can actually read it. It's pretty neat. This cereal box back-cover comes from a recently purchased box of GOLDEN CRISP (namby pamby types had to re-name the stuff after nutritionist nazis got all exercised in the early 70's over it's sugar content.... ever read Calvin & Hobbes, and Calvin's Saturday morning ritual of eating his SUGAR BOMBS?).
